Story Time with Mia

I am a 21 year old college student at Purdue University. I am currently in my third year studying elementary education. I love to dance especially swing...so if you know of any good places to go leave me a comment. My one heart's desire would be to live a life pleasing to God and glorify him in all I do. If I could go anywhere in the world I would go back to Russia...I love the people there! I want to travel all of Europe someday too! Mexican food is the bomb! And kids rock my socks!

Random Stuff

I am sitting at my computer thinking to myself...I should really be getting to bed...but the non-decafinated tea I drank is just not agreeing with that assessment. Thus I sit here updating a blog I have not looked at for months. I am basically going to write about random things that come to my mind so if you get lost just move along because nothing is going to be related.

Have you ever had a class where after the first two weeks you want to do the evaluation for your teacher so that you can hopefully give him or her some feedback that will help improve their class. Yeah I feel like that right now. There is nothing worse than getting up twice a week for a class that at this point in time seems completely worthless...especially in this critical time right before student teaching. Blah...there is still hope for improvement!

I seriously had the best lecture ever today. A first year teacher came in and shared some of her struggles as a first year teacher...it was funny and very helpful in giving us ideas for the future. I have a good story that she shared with us so if your interested in hearing it let me know!

Kara and I had a nice discussion on what should we as christians do when we have a leader who is going contrary to biblical law...such as murdering people. It seems to me that children, who are under the command of their parents, are able to go against their parents if they are asking their children to do something contrary to the biblical law. Does that not translate to citizens under their government. Not only is it our right to go against the government but it almost is our responsibility to do so.

One last thing before I go...I think its funny

I went to a classroom during finals week and this little second grade boy comes up to me and asks: "What are you doing here" I explain that I am just observing and helping out for the day. Right before he is about to leave he says "Well...even George Washington knows my name. I don't know where that came from but I was cracking up on the inside after he said it...kids say the silliest things.

Weekend Update

Alright, so friday night was a fairly interesting evening...I spent my night at the roller rink here in Lafayette. There was one really disrespectful boy that would yell over at me to help him...I gave him the teacher stare and didn't serve him for a couple minutes and he settled down. I also had a few kids come up to me and say we need one dollar each. I supressed my giggles long enough to tell them that I don't give out money...sorry! It was pretty cute other than the fact that they sadly walked away.

I woke up on saturday with a few hours before heading to the rink again. It was a good day...I hosted most of the birthday parties and made a total of $22 in tips. It was pretty awesome. One of the skating parties was for a 1 year old boy. Seriously, can 1 year olds even walk?...let alone skate.

Today was a wonderful day worshipping God and fellowshiping with other believers. I often wake up thinking I just want to go back to bed but its always such an awesome thing to go to church...I'm never disapointed! Kara and I had a good time going over to the girls apartment down the way. We ate pancakes and heard Meg's testimony. It was really interesting to listen to.

Another Cheesehead!

Alright, so I went to church this morning because I wanted to and because of its eternal importance. But I skipped sunday school and the fellowship dinner and life chain afterwards.

This is not it though, I also managed to sleep through the entire evening service...yep I slept!

The consequences for my heathenism comes during my nap...so i'm laying on the couch next to our front window and all of the sudden I hear bang...thud silence silence silence bang...thud silence silence silence bang...thud etc. I think to myself...what is this noise. I look out and one of my neighbors is throwing a ball against the fence...what a cheesehead! Oh well I guess I should have been in church.

My second disturbance came when my cellphone, which was sleeping with me rang!
Girl: Where's grandma
Me: yeah grandma's not here...I think you have the wrong number.
Girl: no I don't...where's grandma...who is this.
Me: Who is this?
Girl: says her name which I don't remember
Me: This is my cellphone...no grandma lives here...I think you have the wrong number
Girl: hangs up
No apologies just hangs up! Another cheesehead!

Well I guess that had I been in church I might not have been disturbed...but then again if i had not turned my phone on silent the phone call might have disrupted the entire service!

P.S. Cheesehead is meant as a term of endearment...not as name calling

I need a empty 2 liter bottle

When you are majoring in elementary education you need the most obscure supplies. Thus far this year I have needed the following things:

- dead insect
- butter dish (which I still need to return...sorry guys)
- empty 2 liter bottle (quantity 2) I still need this one so if you have it let me know
- plastic animal
- film canisters
- saran wrap

Who would have known that when you become a teacher you would need such things!

On another note...not totally though...I had an excellent tutoring session at the elementary school today. My kids actually like coming with me now! I can't wait to be a teacher!

A Day to Rejoice and Be Glad

Everytime I sit down at my computer to update my blog I always think to myself what shall I write about today. Then it occurred to me that maybe I should write about another glorious day that God has graciously given me to live on this Earth.

I was working on my art drawing and as I added texture and some black shading I realized how beautiful my picture looked...who knew I was such an artist! It really looks fantastic!

I forgot to blog today for my English class but my ta told me that I could blog tonight and she would give me partial credit! I still need to do that....woops!

I found this excellent big book to read to my students on monday for tutoring!

When I got home for dinner Sara had prepared this excellent chicken dish with macaroni and cheese and vegies for side dishes. It was yummy...excellent work Sara!

I went to prayer at good old Green Gables and it was a blessing...I am getting more and more comfortable praying out loud as I do it more!

To finish off an excellent day I went on a ride to payless with Sara and the wind was blowing in my face so much, on the way back, that there were tears in my eyes! Great way to exercise!

Dinner Report

I sat down in my usual spot at the table here at Shingle Paradise. It was another dinner with the roomies so I thought. As earlier posted I said that I would taste the concoction with an open mind and I did.

The first bite wasn't so bad...I thought to myself I can maybe eat an entire bowl of this pumpkin spiced with peppers soup.

Then I ate the second bite...and I almost cussed! I mean I seriously thought in my my head that this tastes like #*&$. I hope that wasn't too graphic for my juvenile readers out there.

I was determined to finish my one ladel full bowl but after the third bite I was unable to eat any more without vomiting...so I stopped.

Just for the record I did take big bites when tasting the soup.

I guess pumpkin soup is just not for me!

One Classless day

As I recall this good day I sigh with satisfaction...as my title indicates I had the blessing of no classes so I was able to do a great deal of work!

I woke up at 7:20 and dressed in very unwarm clothing...a skirt and a nice pink stripped swetter was just not warm enough for my journey to Murdock elementary school. I had to observe in one of the kindergarten classes there because in a few short weeks I will be teaching a lesson to the students. It was a good hour of observation and I left with good notes to aid in my classroom management plan while teaching.

Got back to campus at about 10 and turned in my homework for my science class.

Returned back to the apartment by 10:30

Completed lesson plan for both WIT and for the lesson being taught at Murdock by 3...yeah I know i'm slow but I ate and chatted some and did a thorough job

Nap 3-4:30

Chat with one of my roommates and studying for my science exam from 4:30 5:30

Currently updating blog

Much more to be done but at least some things got accomplished!

"My heart exults in the LORD; my strength is exalted in the LORD.My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

P.S. I just want everyone to know that I will try the pumpking soup with an open mind...post to come on my wonderful pumpkin soup experience...I admit it does smell good.
